Meta is shutting down Messenger Desktop app for Mac and Windows

On Thursday, Meta confirmed to TechCrunch the company will be shutting down Messenger desktop app for Mac and Windows.

Starting on December 15, 2025 users will no longer be able to log into the desktop app and will be redirected to Facebook's website to access Messenger there.

Meta now wants its users to use the Messenger Web App or the Facebook app on Windows to access Messenger.
